Strategically situated within Northwest Landing, a 3,000-acre planned community in Dupont, Wash., Chloe Clark has become a quintessential community school for the Steilacoom Historical School District. The architectural and school district team worked with community members and business leaders to create a school that fits within the unique community. As parents walk with their children to school for classes or a community play, they approach a one-story school building with a “front porch” that reflects the traditional craftsman style of their own homes. Simple details and indigenous materials were used to continue the architectural scale and rhythm of the neighborhood.
Through overall site master planning and creative design, the school’s building organization centers on core facilities that will allow the school to grow with the community. By expanding these facilities—library, administration and multipurpose room—and adding new classroom wings, Chloe Clark can easily accommodate up to 600 students.
