The design aesthetic of the building harmonizes with the scale and predominant New England wood-frame construction of other buildings on campus. The architect conducted feasibility studies, site selection and programming, and included such forward-looking features as a media lab for electronic music technologies.
In addition to the main theater, the facility offers a versatile, smaller studio theater without fixed seating. A large ensemble rehearsal space is supplemented with eight private instruction and practice rooms. The academy’s active theater department has a spacious backstage area and dressing rooms, a set shop and costume storage. Practice space is available for the school’s dance program. Four offices are provided for music, theater and dance department faculty.
