The Mosinee School District conducted a feasibility study that determined a need for a new high-technology library, gymnasium, auditorium and indoor pool. After discussions with the city, it was determined that the most appropriate solution for the district was to share community resources. The plan of the city and the school district was to remove the existing COST PER SQ FT$81.39FEATURED IN1998 Architectural Portfolio pool, close the street, and connect the grades 4-8 elementary school to the grades 9-12 high school with a community center.
This school/community center provided: a 786-seat auditorium that features a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system and fully automated staging area; a six-lane competition-size swimming pool with capacity of 228 swimmers, two water slides, a diving platform and a 12-person whirlpool; an outdoor wading pool with capacity for 111 swimmers; a gymnasium (seating capacity of 995) with full-size basketball court, volleyball court, locker room facilities and weight room; a 13,500-volume Instructional Media Center (IMC) with fully automated on-line catalog, Internet access, satellite access and full-text CDs. All IMC resources are available to classrooms in the high school and middle school via computer network.
