The expansion and renovation of the recreation center at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa will nearly double the square footage of the complex to respond to the increasing demand for recreation programs. The expansion will relocate the main entrance to provide a unique and clear entry statement. The concourse features a continuous translucent vault that runs the length of the complex. The entry leads to a two-story lounge and offers a view deep into the complex. The outdoor aquatics area is composed of two bodies of water to accommodate community and university use. This outdoor pool is serviced by a separate cabana building housing locker rooms, a concession stand and a control point to allow flexible programming of the area.
The existing building includes a five-court gym, racquetball courts, multipurpose rooms, locker rooms and an elevated running track.
