River Falls High School

In order to create a safe yet responsive learning environment centered on student success and growth, the architect worked closely with the community’s planning group to design a school on an 80-acre site.
The 2½-story commons is the central organizing element. It provides an entry point and intermission space for the 750-seat auditorium and the three-station top-loading gymnasium.
The food court, media center, locker commons, technology/science and academic wings radiate from the commons.
Four classroom clusters comprise the two-story academic portion of the high school, and each cluster is arranged around a central resource space, staff office and conference rooms.
The two-story technology/science wing houses a greenhouse and lab spaces for biology, chemistry, physics, general science and business. The metal, agriculture and wood labs feature attached classrooms.
Technology flexibility is infused throughout the facility to meet present and future needs. The exterior of the building is brick and architectural precast, designed to fit into the context of the adjacent college campus.
